Weekly Reflections

Week 3: The author is me, since the CNF essay was about our own identities. I want the reader(s) to know about my chosen factors regarding my identity. The genre is a nonfiction piece. The genre fits the content of the essay. The format/presentation is written text. The intended audience is professors and peers. The audience needs to know my identity factors. My stance is that media and my identity have changed me for the better.

Week 4: An article I plan to use in my research is titled, “Impact of Social Media on Youth Mental Health: Statistics, Tips & Resources,” by the University of Nevada, Reno. I wrote down some statistics presented in the article as well as some ways to reduce media consumption. Annotating did help me somewhat, as I did not have to go back into the article that much to find more information on my research topic.

Week 5: Working on outlines has helped me in structuring my essay. With these, I have my ideas written or typed on paper, so I know what to write on my research papers. One thing that would be beneficial to spend more time on would be the rhetorical situation topic. If additional focus doesn’t occur during class time, I would turn to online tutorials/YouTube videos.

Week 6: The course learning outcome I selected was locating academic research resources. I learned how to differentiate between academic and non-academic resources, then using the academic resources to get accurate information for my papers.

Week 7: Rhetorical situation for Exploratory essay

  1. Author: Myself
  2. Purpose: Inform readers/audience about how social media usage affects teens’ mental and physical health
  3. Genre: Academic Writing
  4. Media/Design: Research paper
  5. Audience: Everyone (including students, professors, etc.)
  6. Stance: There are more negatives of social media use than positives.

Week 9: The media that I am using is digital media (articles, videos, etc.) My topic is how social media affects adolescents. With my resources, many of the articles discussed both sides of social media use as well as ways to reduce consumption.

Week 10: Creating outlines and doing the peer review groups sessions have been helpful in my writing process. With outlines, I know firsthand about what will be in each of my paragraphs on my papers. The one thing that has been confusing is some of the limited feedback I have received from my instructor and peers.

Week 11: The argument in my research was that social media use among adolescents is harmful to them. The research actually found that there were positives to social media, such as: educational purposes or building an online identity.

Week 12: The relationship between my Research essay and my MMT is that my MMT was based on information from my RCA essay. Both my presentation and infographic was based on some pieces of information from my Research essay.

Week 14: Creating outlines has proved most useful in my composition process. This is because, previously, when I did not create any outlines, I found myself struggling with what to write even with the topic at hand.
